The Ozone Layer
The Ozone Layer is the reason that people can survive on Earth without dying. People have survived this long because the Ozone Layer absorbs most of the radiation that comes from the sun. But because of Ozone Depletion, or Ozone Reduction, the Sun's radiation is getting stronger. The reason for Ozone Depletion is that there is a large hole in the Ozone Layer. This hole is called the Ozone Hole. The Ozone Layer is being destroyed by atomic halogens. Florine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, and Astatine are the five Halogens.

What makes up the Ozone Layer?
The Ozone Layer is made up of high concentrations of ozone. This is the layer of the Ozone Layer that absorbs 93%-99% of the radiation that comes from the sun. The Ozone Layer is made up mainly of 78% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen. But it also has a bit of Argon and Ozone at about 9 ppm. (ppm stands for parts per million, it is similar to percent) There is only about 0.5 ppm on Earth's surface while the atmosphere has about 9 ppm. The Ozone Layer does not have as much water vapor as the lower atmosphere, but that is the reason that the ozone stays longer. Ozone is made up of three oxygen atoms, and usually it is two oxygen atoms.
